Virginie Courtier-Orgogozo

Virginie Courtier-Orgogozo is a biologist, Director of Research at the CNRS and Associate Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique. With her research team at the Institut Jacques Monod in Paris, she analyzes the evolution of species to better understand our origins and the future of living beings. Her current research focuses on the evolution of bioadhesives produced by Drosophila flies. She is also active in philosophy of biology, the origins of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and the risks associated with gene drive, a new biotechnology. She was awarded the bronze medal of the CNRS in 2014 and was elected EMBO member in 2022. She has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Office parlementaire d'évaluation des choix scientifiques et technologiques (OPECST) since 2020 and a member of the CNRS Ethics Committee since 2021.
